Business Improvement Associations (BIAs) play an important role in supporting vibrant, successful business precincts across Newcastle. There are four BIA precincts within the Newcastle Local Government Area:
- Newcastle City Centre
- Hamilton
- Mayfield
- Wallsend
Each BIA is an independent not‑for‑profit organisation, funded through the Special Business Rate and supported by a Service Agreement with the City of Newcastle. This funding - up to $100,000 annually per precinct - is used to deliver initiatives such as:
- Marketing and promotional activities that support local businesses
- Streetscape improvements and beautification projects
- Community events and precinct activation
- Strategic planning and initiatives that strengthen local economic activity
Each BIA operates under its own Deliverables Plan, outlining the targeted projects and priorities for its precinct.
To ensure these initiatives continue to support the needs of local businesses and property owners, City of Newcastle and JM Consultancy Services (NSW) are seeking your feedback. Your participation in the annual survey will help us understand your awareness of BIA‑funded projects, how effective you believe they are, and what improvements are needed to enhance each precinct.
Your insights will directly shape planning, investment and future improvements to support the ongoing success and vitality of our local centres.
