Queens Wharf is changing.

New opportunities and experiences are coming.

Our vision for Queens Wharf is Newcastle's vibrant waterfront heart.

An extraordinary precinct with dynamic spaces, fostering diverse activities. Economically thriving and environmentally responsible, it celebrates our culture, stimulates growth, and creates lasting connections for residents and visitors alike.

For almost four decades, this much-loved harbourside destination has been the backdrop for countless memories and we’re excited to explore its potential for new opportunities and experiences.

We're revitalising Queens Wharf to celebrate our local identity and establish a legacy for future generations. And we're excited to invigorate the space for new experiences and memories to emerge.

We asked to hear your BIG ideas for how Queens Wharf can continue the transformation of Newcastle's historic East End into a thriving and dynamic destination for the region.

We engaged with stakeholders and the community to test our vision, project objectives, and seek input into what types of vibrant mixed-use outcomes people would most like to see.

What's next?

A development application has been submitted seeking approval to demolish the western building, which is the first step to unlock the future potential of this iconic harbourside location.

We recently commenced an expression of interest process to identify and select an appropriate partner to transform Queens Wharf in line with our vision, and building on the feedback from the engagement process. Expressions of interest were open from 9 October to 7 November 2025. Shortlisted respondents will be invited to submit a more detailed proposal for assessment. We expect to provide further updates in 2026.

We’re also looking into how we can bring some of your temporary activation ideas to life while the longer-term transformation is underway.
