Improving cycleway connection and safety

As part of our commitment to improving cycleway connection and safety, we are delivering a new cycleway along Chinchen and Hubbard Streets, Islington.

The proposed cycleway is a combination of on-road separated cycleway and off-road shared pathway, including landscaped kerb extensions at Linden Street and continuous path treatment at John Hooker Street. These improvements will connect the existing shared pathway from Scholey Street Bridge through to Islington Park.

The proposed changes have been identified as an action within the On Our Bikes - Cycle Plan 2021 - 2030, aiming to cater for all users of varying levels of confidence and abilities.

The implementation of this vital infrastructure will allow for continued access along popular cycling routes, connecting the community to key destinations across Newcastle.

Feedback closed for this project on 5pm, 25 July 2024.
