The Social Strategy has now been adopted

Thanks for having your say! Following feedback from the community, the Social Strategy was unanimously adopted by Council on 25 July 2023. Read the final Social Strategy here.

Social Strategy

Newcastle has changed a lot over the years. Today, it is more diverse than ever, with people of all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs. Individually, we may be very different but, together we call Newcastle home. As the region continues to grow, we want to make sure that you feel able to grow with us and are valued part of our vibrant community.

In 2021, we heard from the community about their ideas and opinions on social justice and inclusion issues such as community participation, satisfaction with wellbeing, access to services, safety, and inclusion in the Newcastle area.
These ideas and feedback were used to develop an important framework called the Social Strategy, which will respond to what the community has told us their needs are, with real and meaningful action.

Meet your locals

As part of our early engagement activities with the community, we asked a diverse range of people living in Newcastle about their connection to the city they call home and the community they're a part of. Click below to see their stories.
