Overview

The existing Outdoor Trading Policy 2020 is to be replaced by the Outdoor Dining Policy 2023.

The Outdoor Dining Policy 2023 provides the framework for the establishment and operation of outdoor dining on public land (footways). The objectives of the policy are to facilitate the creation of vibrant streets, promote safe and equitable access for dining and road users, and encourage economic opportunities for businesses while maintaining local amenity.

The Outdoor Dining Guidelines outline the design and approval requirements for outdoor dining. The guidelines specify location and layout considerations for outdoor dining including accessibility, safety, amenity, furniture and fixtures, and compliance and insurance obligations, as well as an option to enable businesses to apply and pay the associated fee to place and retain structures permanently in an approved outdoor dining area.

The draft Outdoor Dining Policy and Guidelines and proposed Fees and Charges for placement of permanent infrastructure in approved outdoor dining areas was endorsed by Council for public Exhibition at its meeting on 26 September 2023.
