Overview

The Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) is City of Newcastle's plan to guide our land use planning over the next 20 years. It outlines characteristics that contribute to our local identity, shared community values, and describes how growth and change will be managed into the future.

We've prepared a draft update to the LSPS which is now on public exhibition.

What are the key changes?

The draft LSPS 2020 (update 2025) proposes to:

  • Address the biodiversity value of land in the Western Corridor, the precinct west of Wallsend that includes Minmi, Fletcher and Maryland.
  • Incorporate long-term strategic management planning for Summerhill Waste Management Centre (SWMC).
  • Correct mapping anomalies.
  • Make related updates to the Structure Plan and planning priority actions.

A comprehensive review of the LSPS is scheduled to commence later in 2025 which will consider the entire Newcastle Local Government Area, including land and growth outside the Western Corridor.
