Overview

We're reviewing the current Mobile Food Vending (Local Approvals) Policy which was adopted by Council in 2023.

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Provide the framework for the approval and the operation of mobile food vending vehicles in the Newcastle LGA
  • To encourage diversity in takeaway food options in the Newcastle Local Government Area in areas without existing premises.
  • Provide guidance to assist applicants in how to operate a mobile food vending vehicle in a lawful, safe and environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Fulfil the requirements for a local Approvals Policy under section 158 of the Local Government Act 1993.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting held 17 June 2025, the Council endorsed the Draft Mobile Food Vending (Local Approvals) 2025 to be placed on public exhibition for 28 days.
