Community Satisfaction Survey

The Community Satisfaction Survey is an opportunity for local residents and ratepayers to tell City of Newcastle (CN) how we're performing, what we can do better and where we should prioritise our efforts.

The survey asks a range of questions, including:

overall satisfaction with the performance of City of Newcastle
satisfaction with the standard of services provided to the community
satisfaction with 45 individual services and facilities across arts & culture, coastal & aquatics, community, economic development, environment, infrastructure & planning, parks & recreation, planning & development and waste
preferred information channels

How the results are used

The survey results are used to inform our planning and delivery of services, projects and programs; ensuring that our activities are aligned with the needs and expectations of our community.

FAQs

From 2018-2021, CN conducted quarterly community surveys with each quarterly survey focusing on a key area such as communications, environment, waste or parks and recreation. Each year, the Winter survey focused on measuring community satisfaction. In 2021, CN moved towards an annual Community Satisfaction Survey with standardised questions to enable better strategic planning and reporting capabilities, and to avoid over-surveying the community.

Previously CN invited residents to participate in quarterly community surveys via the CN website, social media and e-newsletters to our Newcastle Voice community panel. Community Satisfaction Surveys are now conducted via random telephone interviews in order to reach a more representative sample of our community, and to increase our ability to identify genuine increases or decreases in satisfaction year-on-year.
