Adoption of Our Sustainable Waste Strategy
City of Newcastle (CN) unanimously adopted Our Sustainable Waste Strategy on 22 November 2022.
The Strategy sets a vision for reducing waste, increasing recycling rates, strengthening the economy and creating new jobs within Newcastle over the next 20 years. Summerhill Waste Management Centre will be transformed into an innovative resource recovery facility helping to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill and changing the way we return, reuse, repair and recycle resources.
Why develop a Waste Strategy?
Waste services are an essential service for City of Newcastle and the Hunter region. Developing a sustainable waste solution is critical for the future of our planet, our people and our prosperity. By capturing more of the value from our waste, we're helping to protect the earth and it's finite resources, creating new employment opportunities and enduring value for our community.
The Strategy is a critical component of Newcastle's 2040 shared community vision to be a liveable, sustainable, inclusive global city.
