Bathers Way - King Edward Park CRG

The Bathers Way is a continuous 6km coastal path linking our iconic beaches of Merewether, Dixon Park, Bar Beach, Newcastle, and Nobbys. The Bathers Way is a flagship project of our Coastal Revitalisation Program.

As part of our community engagement program, City of Newcastle (CN) has been working with a Bathers Way Community Reference Group (CRG), with a renewed CRG to help inform planned upgrades to the section of the Bathers Way that runs through King Edward Park. This section will extend from previous works at The Terrace car park, through King Edward Park, connecting to Shortland Esplanade and South Newcastle Beach.

The CRG represents a diverse range of community members, user groups and stakeholders. Diversity of members is important in enabling the CRG to function as an independent body that is both inclusive and representative of the wider Newcastle community.

The purpose of the CRG is to enable two-way communication and engagement between CN and representatives while developing the concept designs for the project.

An early draft of the concept design was presented to the CRG in August 2023 to help inform further design. Refined concepts were then presented to the broader community to have their say between 17 June and 5 August 2024, visit the Have Your Say page to find out more. The CRG provided further feedback on the refined concepts on 31 July 2024.
