Shaylie Pryer - The Connected Novocastrian
Among the reflective and shining beaches, the sand, the water, and the cafes, are the people. The community is what makes this place feel nostalgic, like we are gleefully kept in an era where we know our neighbors and their stories behind the smiles of everyone we meet. Yet, we wake up in the morning, go to our crystal-clear ocean baths, and the same people have changed; the place is alive and there is so much depth. Who we are as a city is through that depth and these people. We are a generational, laid-back, contemplative, vibrant, and progressive city, and it will not stop there because there is always something new to learn about Newcastle, and we must continue to learn together as connected Novocastrians.
This photo was taken candidly at Merewether Ocean Baths (22/01/25) of a man we see every day and who is well known to the community. On this early morning, he sat and was present with his seagull friends. Many people wandered past, smiled, and addressed him by name. "How are you?" they asked from atop the railing, striking up a conversation.
This moment was the epitome of what Newcastle stands for: the pride and beauty of our environment, and the care that we intentionally should continue to take time to give for ourselves and others.
That is a true Novocastrian.

Rose Bergin - Another beautiful week in Newcastle
Monday, it’s a wonderful hot day in Newcastle so let’s go surfing at beautiful Newcastle Beach.
Tuesday, it’s warm but not very good for swimming we should check out the skate park at Bar Beach with a view of the waves.
Wednesday is cold and windy so how about a trip to Blackbutt Reserve where we can see animals big and small.
Thursday, it’s a bit cloudy so then come with me and catch the Stockton ferry over to the park. We are hungry now, how about fish and chips as we watch the tugs bring in the gigantic ships.
Friday, it’s sunny but we are really exhausted so we should do something relaxing today like walking to Nobbys lighthouse and saying hello to the seals.
Saturday, there is a humongous storm so let’s hit the museum, where we can look and interact with the hands-on science experiments.
Sunday is a gorgeous, tropical day so let’s go to the ocean baths at Mereweather for a splash.
That was a magnificent week, I cannot wait to see what is in store for next week!

Nathan McCurley - Tyrrell House - A Timeless Landmark in Newcastle
Standing proudly against the clear Newcastle sky, Tyrrell House is a striking reminder of the city's architectural heritage. Its intricate brickwork, classic facade and vintage clock tower tell stories of a bygone era while continuing to serve as a symbol of community and resilience. This photo captures the charm, history and character that make Newcastle such a unique place to live, work and explore.

Zoë-Mae Croese - Lola living her best life in Newcastle
Lola’s favourite thing to do is to is to go for a ride on the back of the bike with her Mum & Dad around Newcastle, she is a social butterfly and loves meeting new animals and people. We are a little family of 3 lucky enough to be living in Honeysuckle & the bike was our best purchase yet as you can see why, especially around the beaches which we have specially named them “Lola Lane” & she knows exactly what that means.

Grace Yeshe - Returning to Newy
When I moved to Newcastle I’d never even visited beforehand and had no idea that I had family history here.
My great grandfather was the fire chief at Cooks Hill fire station and my grandfather was born there. My dad started school in Adamstown whilst living at the Brunker Road army housing. I found all of this out whilst I was living a few blocks away on Henry St.
I left Newy one year ago and quickly realised how much I missed the lifestyle, beaches, bushwalks, location and friends I’d made. I worked at John Hunter and on Darby St so very much experienced two worlds. I miss Autumn Rooms coffee and getting a lions mane at Estabar and watching the surfers at Newcastle Beach. I miss Glenrock and the Fernleigh and surfing at Susan Gilmore.
In the three years of living there I lost a close family member and was driving 9 hours each way while they were in hospital. I had friends looking after my dog and my dear neighbours looking after my house. I came home after the funeral to a fully stocked fridge.
I have such a sense of community and made friends for life and I am overjoyed to be returning this year to set up my dream life in this special city and delve more into my family history here.
Returning soon… Grace.
